DIMITRI BÄHLER
MASS LOG BOX
With the Mass Log Box series, Dimitri Bähler follows up on his Mass Mirror Tray to continue his exploration of materiality and form that he refers to with the term 'mass'. Mass Log Box exposes the character of split wood while using its texture to conceal a container. Deliberately playing with the natural quality of a typical appearance of timber, he highlights both the traditional shingle-making technique and wood in its most basic function as firewood. The addition of castors can be read as a commentary on 'design' and the expectations towards functionality, adding a smooth and effortless movement to the seemingly unprocessed wood.
